A 2005 theatre production from The Stomach Box based on the seminal text from Rimbaud. This provocative company interprets Rimbaud’s poem as a timely allegory of the modern age, poetically exposing the moral transgression and degradation of our society.

Rimbaud’s visionary poem represents the final testament of one of Europe’s greatest poets before shunning poetry, and Europe, and fleeing to Africa. It details a young man’s examination of the depths of civilisation and self. It is a revolutionary and highly influential classic of modern literature and questions, undermines and rejects the ‘truths’ of western culture and civilisation. Written at the height of the imperial age, with prophetic accuracy it foretells the self-destruction of capitalism, the clash of East and West, and the subsequent revival of fundamentalism.

"Done with intensity and style...accomplished ...raises questions about what drama is or could be." - The Irish Times.

Nominated for Sexiest Show Dublin Fringe Festival 2005.
