


Treading Water:
This piece was performed in Mombasa Kenya. The work acts as a metaphor for the position of a western artist working in Africa. Working in context within a community, feeling uncertain of what role to play and how to overcome preconceived notions, finding the balance between history, current politics and making work. The piece also alludes to the balancing act that the local community are forced into to survive in this country. Treading water is about keeping afloat: trying to exist in difficult or unchartered waters.
