Breathing Time, the second album from Trihornophone is released on independent label Diatribe Records. Recent winners of Music Network's Young Musicwide Award, Seán Óg's Trihornophone have been steadily carving a path all their own through the Dublin improvised music scene since their inception in 2004. Led by renowned composer and alto saxophonist Seán Óg this quartet boasts some of the busiest and creatively engaging musicians working in Ireland today.

Their music draws from a wide palette of influences, touching on European folk, mainstream pop and avant-garde giving Trihornophone an approach to contemporary jazz which draws the listener into a world sometimes familiar, sometimes foreign.

The new album Breathing Time is a distillation of the group's progress so far. These 10 original compositions display Seán Óg's skill in handling a highly unusual instrumentation leaving you wonder at their transition from pocket sized brass band one moment to tight funk grooves the next. The all horns and drums line-up yields new timbres and textures; a unique format these accomplished musicians handle with creativity and personality.

By turns playful and colourful, virtuostic and complex, this album does that rare thing of balancing uncompromising improvised music with an openness and accessibility which crosses the usual divides between serious new music and exploratory pop music.

"[Trihornophone] are a fascinating group, with an old-time feel and a contemporary freedom to handle rhythm and harmony, judiciously mixed with rigorously scored ensembles whose use seems as likely cued as pre-determined.
Seán Óg's settings, so packed with ideas, show a determination to shun the obvious and familiar at almost any price, but their wit, invention and the sheer warmth of what is a very together band are palpable."
- The Irish Times, November 2008

"The trick with playing music that is in any way avant-garde – if you want anyone to actually listen to it, that is - is to make it accessible.
It's not an easy balance, but Irish quartet Trihornophone have succeeded admirably with their debut recording.
Saxophonist Seán Óg, who composed all the music, leads the group through a set of tunes that are full of musical adventure, but full also of humour."
- The Sunday Tribune, October 2008

Long awaited debut album from Ireland's leading improvising vocalist released by Improvised Music Company in September 2007. Dorothy Murphy has been at the vanguard of vocal jazz in Ireland for some years, highly regarded as both an improvising musician and adventurous composer.
Following an award given by the prestigious Music Network, this album features musicians culled from the forefront of Irish avant garde, classical & jazz genres, Calling is a stunning debut comprising of mainly Murphy's compositions.
A collection of probing, driving and passionate music from this unorthodox line-up.

"Dorothy Murphy is another act who avoids the obvious... Murphy's Bjorkian voice a perfect foil for the modernistic instrumental backing. All told, this is a work that repays repeated listening, on a jazz album that tries harder to communicate than merely show off." - Hot Press.

"This is a bold statement from an artist whose time has come." - ****Sunday Tribune.

The Irish Times says they’re an "Excellent young group, constantly challenging with a richly varied repertoire...their pieces are highly original, creative, packed with incident and show a determination to avoid any hint of the clichéd or the safe." Such affirmation for Daniel Jacobsen, Seán Óg, Greg Felton, Dave Redmond and Sean Carpio provides compelling evidence of their central roles in new Irish jazz, as they gather for the launch performance of their debut CD, The Habit of Energy. Eclecticism is the order of the day under their collective banner Oldsquarelines, with original writing that embraces both traditional music and open improv, with the impetus of contemporary swing and algorhythmic grooves.
