In addition to its great traditional fiddlers, folk singers and rock guitarists, Ireland has some fine jazz musicians that Improvised Music Company would like to bring to your attention. You'll find them on Way Out West, a compilation CD insert in the April edition of The Journal of Music (formerly JMI), and if you come along to our Button Factory launch on Tuesday 21st April, we'll have a *gratis copy waiting for you, along with performances by six of its featured artists.
Supported by Culture Ireland, Way Out West provides emphatic evidence of creative industry and intent in jazz from Ireland, and this CD will play its part in bringing the Irish jazz message to festivals, venues and clubs worldwide, generating opportunity for Irish artists from Boston to Berlin. Stylistically, our jazz musicians are happy to embrace both, and here you will find music that straddles the great jazz traditions from both sides of The Atlantic, as befits our small but creative island that looks outward to the world.
Way Out West weighs in with a meaty fourteen tracks, book ended by intimate solos from guitarists Mike Nielsen and Hugh Buckley. Between them you'll find performances by the country's leading groups including Trihornophone, Organics, Morla, Dorothy Murphy's Circleways, Francisco Turrisi Trio, Zoid and Metier, as well as ongoing international collaborations like MSG, Trot a Mouse, White Rocket and The Kevin Brady Trio featuring Bill Carrothers.
